Personal, social and emotional development

This month the children will be focusing on

  • Building relationships with special people
  • Beginning to learn that some things belong to them, some things are to be shared and some things belong to others
  • To separate from the main carers with support and encouragement from a familiar adult

Activities

  • Bringing in a favourite toy from home
  • Singing songs during nappy changing to help bonding
  • Inviting our parents for breakfast

Physical development

This month the children will be focusing on

  • To begin to help with their own dressing and undressing
  • To begin to show an awareness of toileting

Activities

  • Putting their own coats on at garden time
  • Finding and trying to put their own shoes on
  • Using the potty during nappy changing

Communication and language

This month the children will be focusing on

  • Understanding more complex sentences
  • Beginning to ask questions

Activities

  • Reading stories
  • Role play in the home corner
  • Story sack

  • Developing their vocal skill
  • Engaging in role play

Activities

  • Role play with dolls and teddies; dressing them, feeding them etc
  • Making a word and picture book which contains familiar objects and animals
  • Following simple instructions
  • Engaging in group activities to develop their confidence
  • Expressing their feelings by using picture books
  • Developing and sustaining relationships with other children
  • Sharing and swapping toys

Physical development

This month the children will be focusing on

  • Developing their gross and fine motor skills

Activities

  • Using the balancing beams to walk on and roll balls down
  • Playing on obstacle courses which are on different levels to encouraging stepping up and down
  • Using rollers and cutters to manipulate play dough
  • Moving and dancing to music

Communication and language

This month the children will be focusing on

  • Understanding and following instructions

Activities

  • Listening to different sounds in the garden to see if the children can distinguish between them
  • Using puppets to make our own songs
  • Reading stories with repetitive phrases and encouraging the children to join in
